What is Corrective Exercise Prescription?

Corrective Exercise Prescription begins where traditional rehabilitation methods leave off.  After an injury, many people complete physical therapy but find that they still are not 100% functional and even experience pain when attempting simple daily tasks.  It is at this point that they don’t know where to turn for help.

What Happens During My First Appointment?

The first step is a comprehensive orthopedic assessment, which includes:

ž     posture analysis,

ž     functional joint motion evaluation,

ž     muscle length measurements,

ž     muscle strength testing, and

ž     a appraisal of how well the nerves are recruiting muscle fibers.

The assessment results can show whether the causes of your problems are primarily muscular in nature, have more to do with nervous system dysfunction, or are a result of compromised joint functioning.  The presence of one or all of these can significantly change structural alignment, neuromuscular control, or body movement patterns, ultimately increasing pain and dysfunction and decreasing quality of life.

What Happens Next?

After identifying the specific nature of your physical challenges, you will be assigned specific stretches, movements, and exercises to optimally insure proper recovery and to restore your health and fitness. This occurs in a phased approach:

ž     Phase I involves range of motion enhancement patterns and stretches designed to restore joint function.

ž     Phase II involves core stability exercises designed to increase a joint’s weight-bearing ability while at the same time increasing pain-free range of motion.

ž     Phase III involves specific strength and conditioning exercises designed to enable you to perform desired activities of daily living at least as well as, if not better than, you did before you were injured.

What Can I Expect?

The benefits of my Corrective Exercise Prescription include:

ž     a solution to your physical challenges based on detailed assessment methods,

ž     a leaner and stronger body that resists short-term illness and long-term aging,

ž     improved body suppleness and elasticity,

ž     greater awareness of your postural alignment and movement of your limbs,

ž     an appropriate method for relieving stress and worries.

Most importantly, I believe you'll achieve a brighter outlook in every aspect of your life, more confidence, and greater focus in everything you do.  And you won’t be alone: I've been professionally instructing and training soldiers, law enforcement officers, quadriplegic children, paraplegic adults, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) patients, arthritis patients, martial artists, ice skaters, tennis players, marathon runners, soccer moms, weekend athletes—and even a few former couch potatoes—since 1982.

Why Should I Choose Pittsburgh Pain Remedies for Corrective Exercise?

Like many of the cutting edge strength and rehabilitation coaches in professional and collegiate sports, I am certified under the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  I am also a Lakan Guro (1st Degree Black Belt) in the Filipino martial art of Kali-Silat and hold advanced belts in Ryu-Kyu Kenpo and American Kenpo Karate.  This blend of education and experience gives me a unique perspective on human performance enhancement and is the basis for my approach, which combines the best of hard science and ancient wisdom to help you build a strong yet flexible body.
